Today’s Topic – PRINCIPLE: Normal
(Principles are basic truths that, when applied,
cause success to come to you easier and quicker.

Normal. A dictionary may define normal as “average,
usual, conforming, ordinary, common.” Wow, to be
called normal sounds like an insult! Yet, historically,
that’s what you and I have been normed (there’s that
word again) into being and to serving.

In a recent presentation, Seth Godin showed how
a normal market, as illustrated by a traditional bell
curve, is the big chunk in the middle of the curve.
Because of it’s size and uniformity/homogeneity
we used to target most of our effort there.

But you and I aren’t normal! We have our unique
set of interests, values, passions, and desires.
They are OUR normal. Which is what Godin went
on to point out. The bell curve has flattened and
now more of us are outside the old normal range
than are in it.

The world has become comprised of a vast set of
different groups, each with their unique attributes.
He likes to call them tribes.

Why is Normal the subject of this S3MC?

It’s because you (by subscribing, reading,
interacting and forwarding them) and I (by
writing and distributing them), in a way,
describe a tribe, a group with some shared
attributes. We are our own Normal.

We belong here only by choice. You can
unsubscribe at any time. Or, you can share
these thoughts, ideas, and stimulators with
others, thereby adding to the wisdom of the
group. Help define it even.

Coaching Point:  With any tribe or community
there is a shared sense of belonging. We like
that feeling. How do you want to this group,
this resource, to grow? What will serve you best?

Need vs Desire

change / Coaching / peace / Steve Straus / Success - 5 months ago -

Here is a great 3-minute coaching from my friend Steve…

Today’s Topic – DISTINCTION: Desire vs. Need
(Distinctions are subtleties of language that, when gotten,
cause a shift in a belief, behavior, value or attitude.)

True desire is quite different from a lot of other
things which get (mistakenly) called desire. Desire
is a natural and useful part of the human condition.
Nothing has ever been created in this world without
first an emotion-based thought, a desire.

The confusion around desire is mostly because desire
is not about pain. You and I will do more to avoid or
minimize pain than we will to maximize pleasure.
Desire is about pleasure.

Needs — and wants, wishes, requirements, shoulds –
are about pain. There is the sense that something is
‘off’ ‘missing’ ‘wrong’ or ‘ill’ and must be fixed
before you can be whole. Needs can override desires.
Needs can masquerade as desires.

Here’s a check list to determine which is in play:

Desire pulls. Needs drive. Desire guides. Needs just
want away from. Desire is from your inner-most being.
Needs are from your egoic mind. Desire is soft and
encouraging. Needs are loud and demanding.

The shortest path to discovering your true desires,
and living them, is to get your needs met. Handle
your past. Clean up your fears. Get help resolving
your barriers.

As that noisy, painful stuff diminishes, your
desires will become obvious. They will serve as
your guide to living the life you came here to live.

Coaching Point:  What true desire have you been
ignoring?

Ask Effective Questions

change / Coaching / Steve Straus / Success - 1 year ago -

Today’s Topic – PRINCIPLE: Asking Effective Questions
(Principles are basic truths that, when applied,
cause success to come to you easier and quicker.

Okay, this may seem a weird example, but have
you ever baked a cake and had it fall in the middle?
If so, your first response was probably, “What
ingredient did I leave out or which ingredient was
bad or old and ineffective?” However, experienced
bakers will tell you, “Don’t open the oven door
during the baking because a rush of (relatively)
cold air will hit the top of the baking cake and
cause it to fall.”

Now, you suspect, if you’ve been a reader/
subscriber to the S3MC for a while, that this one
is probably not about baking. You are correct.
It’s about asking effective questions.

Here’s the thing. The questions you ask narrow
the answers you can receive, to the point that
asking the ‘wrong’ questions will keep you from
seeing the correct answers. In the cake baking
example, the questions, being focused on the
ingredients, precludes noticing the cooking process,
e.g. opening the oven door during the cooking.

One of the hallmarks of an aware person is their
ability (which is a learnable skill, not simply a
function of innate intelligence) to step back from
an issue and see several avenues of questions
to pursue. The less aware person will jump at
the first question which comes to mind and, if
no useful answer is forthcoming, feel stuck
and frustrated.

By the way, frustration at not seeing an answer
is a good indicator that you are not asking
effective questions.

Coaching Point: Any questions about this?

Happy Holidays!!!

General / peace - 1 year ago -

It’s that wonderful magical time of the year and I want to acknowledge the magic that you have brought to my life.

At this time of the year, I pick a theme for the coming year.  My theme for 2011 was “It’s happening!“, and indeed a lot of things happened.  Most notably, I moved to Los Angeles to be with my husband!  Yay!

My theme colors the year with a mantra that guides me and inspires me.  This year especially, I noticed that some of you reminded me, on several occations, that “It’s happening!”   I can’t begin to describe how helpful that was.

My theme for 2012 is “Abundance“.  Make sure you tell me yours so that we remind each other when the time comes.  :-)  I look forward to hearing what your theme is!

Throughout the holiday season and in 2012 remember that you make your dreams come true!  I wish you health, wealth, love, peace and happiness.

Season’s Greetings!

Joyeux Noel!

Merry Christmas!

Happy Hanukkah!

Happy 2112!

I Love Einstein

Spirituality / Steve Straus / Success - 1 year ago -

I love Albert Einstein.  Not only was he a genius in math and science but he was a brilliant philosopher too.  In fact, it just goes to show that the three go hand-in-hand.

This is the latest post from my friend Steve and I thought it was a must share.

Peace and love,

Elle

Today's Topic - QUOTE: Optical Delusion
(Quotes are capsules of information, reinforcement or enlightenment.)

"A human being is a part of the whole, called by us
'Universe,' a part limited in time and space.

He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings
as something separated from the rest - a kind of
optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion
is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our
personal desires and to affection for a few persons
nearest to us.

Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison
by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all
living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.
Nobody is able to achieve this completely, but the
striving for such achievement is in itself a part of
the liberation and a foundation for inner security."

Albert Einstein

Coaching Point: Optical delusion? Separated? Compassion? Inner
security? Oh, Albert, what have you made us think about now?

She’s produced, written, directed, edited and starred in several short films and a webseries. She also garnered a successful business career in sales and marketing and was a key factor in the increased sales of a small marketing company. She is a graduate of the Theatre Performance Program at Humber College in Toronto, Canada where the Artistic Director claimed her first performance to be “Astounding” and where she completed her diploma with the lead role in two of the three productions. After college she pursued her love for music by writing songs and performing as the lead singer in several bands. Her music and songs have been featured in several short films and a television show. Following the break-up of her last band she went on a spiritual journey and re-discovered her passion for movies. Her first short film received Outstanding Achievement in Comedy at the Eyelens Film Festival. With her constant desire to learn and challenge herself, she created four short films with the intention of tackling all aspects of filmmaking and chose to be the sole creator and crew member. “I loved the pressure of having to use my creativity and my ability to think outside of the box in order to solve all the challenges that presented themselves.” On a constant mission to better herself, Elle’s current project is a truly inspiring short film about an 8 year-old boy who struggles to survive the wrath of a heartless soldier. This Oscar worthy project has a powerful message which is destined to make a difference and hopefully her blog will make a difference in your life.
